Doug Carey
As a U.S. diplomat for over two decades, Doug led outreach to, and developed international partnerships with, a range of countries, from Germany and France to Haiti, Liberia, Tunisia, and the Marshall Islands. Doug helped negotiate the Sustainable Development Goals at the United Nations, represented the United States at a UN conference in Samoa focused on Small Island Developing States, and oversaw U.S. relations with Pacific Island countries in Micronesia, Melanesia, and Polynesia. Prior to his diplomatic career, Doug worked as a financial journalist in Japan and a public television producer in San Francisco.
Doug transitioned from the U.S. Foreign Service to Hawai’i in 2023, and continues efforts to promote scientific, cultural, and environmental partnerships – in Hawai’i, the Pacific, and beyond.
