Class Description:
Create a coloring book with us!
In our spring break Coloring Book Creation class, students will work with local Illustrator, Yuko Green, to create a coloring book. The book will be printed following the conclusion of the class and each student will receive a copy of their own to keep.
The book will center around the theme of Mālama, the Hawaiian value meaning to care for or to preserve. Through the class, students will be introduced to and discuss native Hawaiian plants and animals, as well as canoe plants (plants Polynesians brought to Hawai‘i on their canoes, such as taro). Students will learn to illustrate these items as they learn about their habitats, and whether they are native or endangered.
Students will learn that art can be used as a tool to spread awareness to others about our special Hawaiian flora and fauna, and to give each of us opportunities to think, make decisions and to consider their role in sustaining life in our ʻāina, as individuals and as a community.
The book will be printed following the conclusion of the class and each student will receive a copy of their own to keep. Students will be able to take pride in the fact that additional copies of the book will be sold as a fundraiser to support the Youth Art Series.
Registration is now closed- email [email protected] for inquiries.
