It’s the most wonderful time of the year!… Halloween Art Camp is here! Our spookiest and kookiest camp has returned for its 6th year!
Students will have the opportunity to work in a variety of media under the direction of our team of talented teaching artists. Throughout the week students will take part in fun and festive Halloween surprises, engage their creativity and explore their imaginations.
Students are encouraged to wear costumes, wacky outfits, face paint, etc…

We are excited to announce that this year’s camp is being made possible with support from our sponsor HI Inspired !
HI Inspired is a small local business owned and operated by long time friend of the Youth Arts Series, Renata Ballo. Renata is an entrepreneur, artist, and educator. We are thrilled to partner with a fellow member of our creative community!

About Our Sponsor
HI Inspired is a Hilo-based small business that creates protective outdoor gear for canoe paddlers and for anyone who works, trains, or plays outdoors. The brand draws from the beauty of Hawai‘i and is guided by the belief that every action we take affects the land, ocean, and air. HI Inspired designs with purpose and gives back through donations, sustainability, creativity, and hands-on community engagement. As part of this mission, the company is contributing to this special workshop with keiki to encourage creativity, upcycling, and cultural connection.

A Note from YAS
Those of you who are familiar with Halloween Art Camp, know that it usually coincides with our Haunted House. Unfortunately, this year, we’ve had to make the hard decision to cancel what would have been our 6th annual Haunted House art installation.
Due to a lack of funding for our organization as a whole, we no longer have the capacity to produce our annual tradition.
With funding cuts to the arts, EHCC is facing a critical moment. To sustain our staff, keep our programs alive, and ensure this historic community space remains open, we must raise $50,000 in 30 days. Every dollar makes a difference: it pays teaching artists, supports exhibitions, maintains our galleries and classrooms, and keeps the lights on for everyone who walks through our doors.
We love our creative community that has supported the Youth Arts Series for the past 9 years. We need your help NOW! Please visit our fundraising page here to make a contribution, any amount helps.
With your support we hope to keep all of our youth art programs going for many more years to come.

Course Descriptions/Instructors:
  • Magical Mask Making with Mary Milelzcik:In this creative Halloween workshop , keiki will make a unique mask that unleashes a scary monster, mysterious creature, superhero, or glamour person.  They will turn everyday recycled materials and found objects into unique, one-of-a-kind masks and costume accessories. Imagination is the only limit. They are also encouraged to make another mask to gift to a friend or sibling!
  • Spooktacular Sewing with Renata Ballo from HI Inspired: Keiki will be invited to transform old aloha shirts and palaka fabric scraps into imaginative stuffed creatures or Halloween totes with monster appliqué. The workshop is designed to teach kids sewing skills, creativity, and a bit of Hawaiian culture through a hands-on, step-by-step process.

These super spooky (or just a little spooky) friends will be accompanied by their own mini homes! Students will craft miniature haunted settings to house their creatures.
