“Art Forward” moves forward!

EHCC is proud to announce that we have received a grant from the Atherton Family Foundation to pilot an innovative art instruction and mentoring program for high school students, “Art Forward.” Through this program, after school art classes will encourage students to take the lead in conceiving and completing their own art projects, which may involve ceramics, tile painting, and/or repurposing trash into functional art. In addition, students will meet with Big Island-based professionals now working in the creative economy – whether as fine artists or in related fields such as fashion, architecture, graphic design, or other fields. Students will learn from presenters’ first-hand experiences about the challenges and rewards of various career paths that can harness their creative talents. The project will operate as a proof-of-concept demonstration in 2022, with two sessions planned and built-in evaluation methods. Our heartfelt thanks to the Atherton Family Foundation for making this program possible.
