OIO Concert: from Piety to Piracy – Ave to Arrgh!

Orchid Isle Orchestra will present a concert on Saturday, May 20, 4 p.m., at the East Hawaii Cultural Center/Hawaii Museum of Contemporary Art (EHCC/HMOCA) in Hilo. Music includes works by Mozart (Ave Verum Corpus), Vivaldi/Bach, Grieg, Mascagni, Bartok, plus a medley from Pirates of the Caribbean. Walter Greenwood and Cathy Young conduct. The public is invited to this free concert; donations are welcome at the door. Craig Jenkins = Panchatantra & Ramayana

English Storyteller CRAIG JENKINS will tell tales from India in May. Craig tells stories from the Panchatantra (animal teaching tales, India’s Aesop’s fables), and chapters from India’s classic love story, the Ramayana.

Craig wins over audiences across the world with his funny, vibrant, & interactive shows. His animal characters text and use Facebook. His Ramayana has a more respectful tone to bring chapters of this complex epic to life. Nobody tells these tales like Craig, even in India! This is his first visit to our islands. Don’t miss him!

"Martha Redbone and Aaron Whitby at EHCC" an evening with Martha - an extraordinary vocalist/storyteller and Aaron Whitby on piano, performing the songs and scenes of Bone Hill. With minimal musical accompaniment and maximum vocals it is a deeper exploration of the traditional singing styles that form the heart of the music of Bone Hill; Cherokee chants, front porch blues and gospel.

   DID YOU KNOW.....

There are a few things that are very unique about Cha-Cha.  First of all… The hip movement and staccato footwork.  It is very, very “Latin”, sexy and sensual.  Its unique rhythm and sound is considered very flirty, infectious and upbeat…although it can also sound very nice slowed down.  It is a really fun dance and it can really distinguish you on the dance floor.
