Youth Artivists Hawai’i (YAH)

Program Description: The ocean is vast and powerful but it is facing challenges from climate change, pollution, and rising sea levels. What can we do to ensure this beautiful ecosystem is thriving for generations to come? We want to empower our young people to think creatively and elevate their solutions for a healthy, sustainable ocean.

Youth Artivists Hawaiʻi (YAH) is a week-long free summer camp for middle school youth focusing on environmental art and ocean science. Participants will learn about ocean issues, marine conservation and coral reef protection through art making, hands-on activities and field trips to Hilo Bay. They will then have the opportunity to take what theyʻve learned, work alongside a professional muralist from New Zealand (Cinzah) and create their own large scale mural installed at MEGA Lab inside the Mokupāpapa museum. Upon completion of the mural, there will be a community event to celebrate the youth artists. This STEAM camp is a fun and special experience that promises to impact those participating and the entire community.

A partnership between the EHCC, the MEGA Lab, and PangeaSeed Foundation, this program is made possible with funding from the Atherton Family Foundation and First Hawaiian Bank.
