Class Description:
Explore the rhythmic intersection of art and sound in this hands-on 8-week ceramics course inspired by Mud to Music by Barry Hall. In this class, students will learn to handbuild a variety of functional musical instruments using clay—with may include ocarinas, drums, rattles, flutes, and whistles—while deepening their understanding of form, acoustics, and craftsmanship. Through guided projects and creative experimentation, participants will shape, refine, and fire instruments that not only look beautiful but also produce sound.
No prior ceramics or musical experience is required. Students will gain foundational handbuilding skills. This class is perfect for musicians, artists, educators, and anyone curious about the possibilities of clay as a musical medium.
All materials and firings included.
Monika taught at Hawaii Community College for 15 years, and has exhibited extensively in Hawaii and Los Angeles.
 
Workshops Refund Policy: A full refund will be issued if cancellation is prior to the registration deadline; if after the registration deadline but prior to the first class a 50% refund will be issued; and no refund will be issued after the first day of class.
