EHCC Lecture Series Online presents: An Introduction to Islamic Art, through Honolulu's Shangri La Museum of Islamic Art, Culture and Design
Zoom lecture, Thursday, January 20th, 2022 at 6:00 PM
Famed heiress Doris Duke filled her fabulous seaside mansion in Honolulu with Islamic art she collected through her travels, the mansion's rooms recalling her favorite places in Iran, Turkey, Syria and India. She died in 1993, leaving her Shangri La and its collections to the Doris Duke Foundation for Islamic Art, which has run the house as a museum since 2002. The Foundation also supports contemporary artists-in-residence whose art is inspired by the museum's mission and collections. In this illustrated Zoom talk, Dr. Larry Butler, an historian of Islamic art and architecture, will offer a basic introduction to Islamic art and architecture through a virtual tour of this wonderful Hawaii museum and its treasures.
The Zoom lecture is free and open to the public. Please RSVP to [email protected] for the Zoom link by 4:00 PM, January 20th.
