EHCC hosts “Power Up” conference on the future of local institutions
On September 24, 2022, EHCC hosted a panel discussion in its Kahua ‘Elua Theatre, part of the “Power Up: Museums in Momentum” series being sponsored by the Hawai’i Museums Association across the islands. The topic for Hawai’i Island was “Navigating Our Institutions’ Future.” Recorded presentations were offered by Kahilu Theatre and the Donkey Mill, followed by a live panel discussion featuring Steve Freedman, chair of EHCC; Emily Leucht, Executive Director of the Wailoa Center; Mike Nelson, CEO of Volcano Art Center; and Christian Wong, Executive Director of Hawai’i Museum of Science and Technology. EHCC’s Executive Director Carol Walker moderated. Panelists agreed that collaboration is essential, highlighting such initiatives as “Museum Square” (a collective consisting of EHCC, HSTM, Pacific Tsunami Museum and Mokupāpapa Discovery Center) and agreeing to move forward with shared strategic planning at a follow-up meeting.
