The Youth Arts Series: Summer 2018 (July 16-27)

Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM- 12:00 Noon

Drop off period: 7:30 AM- 7:55 AM

Pick up period: 12:00 PM- 12:30 PM

Ages 7-14 (AS OF 5/28/18)

Week 1: July 16th- 20th

Week 2: July 23rd- 27th

Tuition:

$125 Non EHCC Member

$105 EHCC Member (15% discount)

-Per student, per week

-Students may register for each week individually or consecutively. Projects will be different in each week.

-Classes may be canceled if minimum enrollment is not met, in the event of which the enrollment fee will be refunded. Membership purchased at the time of registration is non-refundable. Membership will remain valid for one calendar year.

-A mid-morning snack will be provided by EHCC but a 2nd snack brought by student for lunch is encouraged as 'lunch' will not be provided.

    Collagraphs

    Class Description: Printmaking methods such as, watercolor monoprints, collagraphs, solar, and stencils pressure printing will be explored. Students will be guided through the techniques while having opportunity to experiment and exercise creative freedom. Use of basic upcycled materials, non-toxic inks, the etching press and printmaking tools will all be apart of the experience.

  • Scrap Poetry

    Week 1: July 16th- 20th

    This class will focus on creating scrap booked pages around a variety of poems.  Students will use some of their favorite poems from their favorite poets and authors and use different materials to collage pages that illustrate the message or theme.  Students will also write their own poems and collage to illustrate them.

  • String Theory (Crochet for Beginners)

    Week 1: July 16th- 20th

    Class Description: In Class basic crochet will be taught and crochet terminology. Lessons will be project based First Project will be pot holder/washcloth. Second Project how to make a Beannie.  Intermediate and advance skills are welcomed to expand on existing skills.

  • Smartphone* Filmmaking

    Week 2: July 23rd- 27th

    Class Description: This class covers a variety of artistic forms of expression; acting, photography/videography, and writing. Students will work together to write, film, edit and perform in their own short films. In honor of the age of Instagram all films will be less than 5 minutes long. Students are required to  bring their own smart device(phone or tablet) they will film with.

    *Students are required to bring their own camera which can be the camera on any portable device as long as it is capable of recording video. The camera of their smartphone, ipod, digital tablet, etc.. are all acceptable devices.

    Bio:
    Leah Wilson has her B.A. in Performing Arts from the University of Hawaii at Hilo. She has been immersed in visual arts since she was a small child, going on to study at Sudbrook Magnet school in Maryland. Photography is her preferred medium; following the footsteps of her father, Vincent Wilson, who is a professional photographer. She ran the UH Hilo video production program, then called Lava Shoot, where she filmed, produced, photographed original content and documented campus events. Learn More
