My name is Megan Kimata and I am a senior at Waiakea High School. I’ve been dancing at Island Dance Academy, under the direction of Suen Hughes, since I was 4- years old. I take dance classes which include classical ballet, tap and jazz. I also teach two jazz classes and demonstrate ballet moves for Ms. Suen in her classes. I’ve been in 20 major dance productions put on by Island Dance Academy. My first major solo was “Fritz” in the Nutcracker and most recently as the “Fairy Godmother” in Cinderella. I will be the “Sugarplum Fairy” in the Nutcracker performance in December of this year. I’ve also participated in several Dance Collective performances for the UHH Performing Arts and have been choreographing, Class of 2020, Waiakea High School’s Variety Show since I was a freshman. I enjoy teaching others and creating choreography for whatever class I am teaching. After graduation, I will attend college to become a pediatrician. No matter where I am or what I’m doing, I will always have a passion for dance.I look forward to being part of the East Hawai’i Cultural Center Youth Arts Series: Fall Break Halloween Camp 2019 and passing on my passion for dance.
