Clayton Amemiya

Clayton Amemiya is an anagama potter trained in Okinawa, residing in Hilo, Hawaii who has fired in an anagama for over 25 years. He has exhibited in the U.S. Japan and China, and his works are included in public and private collections in the U.S., East Asia and Europe. Clayton creates functional ware based on East Asian models, as well as sculptural objects inspired by the Big Island environment. “The extended firing time of over five days creates textures reminiscent of stone,” says Amemiya. “In my pots, I see and feel the upland, rainforest environment where I live and work.”
