Temple Children & HHS Art Club Mural

Program type:
Dates:
Wednesday, November 6, 2019 - 3:30pm to Saturday, November 9, 2019 - 5:00pm

Our newest mural is located on the mauka side of the Annex Building. It is the second Youth Arts Series mural, painted in collaboration with Temple Children, international artist David ‘MEGGS’ Hooke and the Hilo High School Art Club. Over the course of several days, the students worked with MEGGS, learning about the mural process and painting techniques.

The mural’s design echoes the theme and message of Temple Children’s November 2019 exhibition in EHCC’s main gallery, ‘KINDRED SPIRITS: Exploring Interrelationships Between People, Places and Planet Earth.’ The design explores the duality of life and death as a result of climate change and human impact on the planet. One side features bleached coral, in contrast on the opposing end, a flourishing branch of lehua blossoms.

We would like to extend a HUGE MAHALO to Temple Children, MEGGS, and all of the wonderful students from the Hilo High School Art Club!
