TaKeTiNa Music in Motion Workshop

Program type:
Dates:
Saturday, June 29, 2019 - 1:00pm to 5:00pm
Dancers, actors, and those interested in rhythm work are invited to a workshop with international artists from Berlin, Germany, entitled Music in Motion: Surfing the Waves of Rhythm. Helmut Erler, a certified TaKeTiNa therapist, musician, and sound engineer, teams with dancer and choreographer Natascha Noack for a four-hour workshop at Kahua ‘Elua, the second-floor theatre at the East Hawai’i Cultural Center in downtown Hilo. The workshop is scheduled for June 29, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm, and is open to participants from age 12 through adult. Cost is $15 for students aged 12-18; $20 for college students; and $25 for non-student adults 18 & over. Call EHCC for a reservation and payment at 961-5711.

The workshop is a fundraiser for EHCC and will be a harmonious balance of the rhythm method TaKeTina, Somatic Movement, and Improvisation. The workshop offers a special tour through the exciting world of polyrthythmic music and movement. Rhythm structures that are often perceived as complex and difficult become easy and natural when they are learned through the body. Participants often experience the joy, depth, personal growth, trance-like states and creative potential within universal rhythm principles. Beginners will be guided into a protected space of experimentation while advanced movers, actors or musicians will have the opportunity to question their habits and explore their limits. A warm-up using different Somatic Movement methods will be followed by preliminary body percussion games and rhythm exercises, leading into fluid and beautiful movements. A deep relaxation and the opportunity for sharing the experience will close the workshop.

Noack is a dancer, choreographer and curator who investigates the intersections of movement, performance, music and film. She teaches at Tanzfabrik Berlin, the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music, the Film University Potsdam and at Talents, a section of the International Film Festival Berlin. She also holds a yearly Summer Dance Academy in the Czech Republic and conducts workshop throughout Europe. Natascha is a graduate of the TaKeTiNa percussion training and a curator for the International Film Festival Berlin.
