Mayumi Oda: Expression of the Female Deity

Mayumi Oda in a retrospective survey spanning 40 years of creative work by the artist is scheduled to open at the East Hawaii Cultural Center with a 6:00 pm reception for Mayumi who will be present and entertainment from Gamelan of the Molten Blossom on First Friday, May 3, 2019. The exhibition will feature a selection of silk screen, wood block, intaglio, and calligraphic works from the artist’s Buddhist, Heart Sutra, Kannonkyo, Goddess, and Ocean Series. And include five (5) major original Thangkas that reflect an exceptionally bold and delightfully inventive feminist spirit. Oda’s work has been widely shown internationally, and collected by numerous museums and institutions including: The Museum of Fine Arts Boston, the Cincinnati Art Museum and the Cleveland Museum (OH), the Honolulu Museum of Art (HI), Portland Museum of Art (Or), Osaka Modern Art Center, Tochigi Prefecture Museum of Art, and the Tokyo University of Fine Art (Japan). Please join us in celebrating with Mayumi Oda, a special Hilo First Friday opening of “Expression of the Female Deity”. This event is free and open to the public. The exhibition will remain on view through Saturday May 31, 2019
