EHCC OPEN ONLINE

Program type:
Dates:
Sunday, April 26, 2020 - 12:30pm to Saturday, August 1, 2020 - 12:30pm
To our friends and supporters: as we all cope with the effects of the Coronavirus pandemic, EHCC is offering free access to videos of recent theatrical and musical performances, and is sponsoring a curated on-line photo exhibition especially for East Hawai'i residents:

You can watch a full-length video of the hilarious and thought-provoking comedy-drama by Neil Simon, Biloxi Blues. Directed by EHCC’s resident theatre director Larry Reitzer in January 2020, and featuring impressive debut performances by several local actors, the show addresses racism, anti-Semitism, homophobia, and coming of age during World War II. (Parental discretion is advised as the show contains adult language and themes).

If you are interested in expanding your musical horizons, check out this video of the first gamelan performance held in EHCC's new Bob Brown Gamelan Studio, on October 24, 2019. The show features the bronze gongs and metallophones used in Central Java to create meditative, compelling music unlike any melodies found in Western musical traditions.

EHCC also invites community members to submit their digital photos for an upcoming on-line photo exhibition, with an initial theme of “Sheltering in Paradise.” All Hawai'i Island residents are eligible and are welcome to submit as many photos as desired. There is no entry fee and the only requirement is that photos illuminate some aspect of life in Hawai'i under current conditions. Selected photos will be available through an EHCC photo-hosting account, with the best submissions recognized through a special “curator’s choice” album. View details here!
