The Hawaii County Civil Defense issued this message:

This is a Civil Defense Flash Flood Advisory Update for Tuesday morning, October 24 at 7:15.

The National Weather Service reports a Flash Flood Advisory is now in effect for Hawaii Island. A Flash Flood Advisory means minor flooding is occurring or imminent; and may be upgraded to a Flash Flood Warning if flooding worsens and poses a threat to life and property.

Heavy thunder showers are expected to continue through today. Hawaii County Police reports all roads are open at this time, but advise that driving conditions are poor because of occasional heavy downpours. Due the heavy rains, be on the alert for possible road closures.

Department of Education reports all schools are open.
Due to the thunderstorm, your utilities of power and phones may be interrupted. If lightning threatens your area, the safest place to be is indoors.

Should power outages occur, be on the alert for non-operable traffic signals. Please treat flashing traffic lights as a four-way stop.

Again, the National Weather Service reports Flash Flood Advisory now in effect for Hawaii Island. Heavy rains are expected to continue throughout today.

This page will be updated and you will be informed of any conditions that may affect your safety.

Thank you, have a safe day, this is your Hawaii County Civil Defense.

We will be closed today on October 24th, 2017- but are expecting to open tomorrow for regular hours. Please stay safe out on the roads today!
